Derby Folk Dance Club

Derby Folk Dance Club was founded over 50 years ago, the club welcomes new members (singles or couples) or visitors with an interest in dancing. No experience is needed as all dances are walked through before being danced. It is at barn dances that people often first meet this type of dancing but, at a club such as Derby Folk Dance Club, the range and style of dances and music encountered is much wider.
The club aims to promote the dances from the 17th. Century to the present day that are generally included in the term 'Folk Dances'. These may be the 'Playford' dances (such as seen in the BBC drama "Pride and Prejudice") , or others by more modern composers like Pat Shaw, Gary Roodman and also American style contras and squares.

Club Meetings
The club meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday, except August and Bank holidays, from 7.30-9.30pm at St.Michael and All Angels Church Hall Elvaston Lane, DE24 0PU  Alvaston, Derby (click on link below for a map).  Whilst every effort is made to keep information on this web site up to date, intending newcomers are advised to check with one of the contacts listed. Dancing is to our resident band and the club has a number of callers who are there to help everyone through the dance movements. Why not come along and give it a try? beginners and experienced dancers alike are welcome.
